Glen Canyon Lecture Series – Craig Childs

Powell Museum News & Events

The Glen Canyon Lecture Series Presents

Craig Childs

“I am putting together a somewhat dark and eerie presentation of uncanny or unusual moments in the wilderness, focusing on the vicinity around Page, sometimes going out a little farther. Ghost stories in a sense, these will be fitting for a changing season, the gradual darkening of autumn into winter. We are entering the time of year when stories have traditionally been told around the world, when people came together to weather these darker and darker nights. “

Powell Museum New Exhibit

Powell Museum News & Events

RAY DUGI has been painting and sketching for five years, but already shows incredible depth of skill and talent. SPIRIT HORSE is Dugi’s first exhibition and showcases a variety of styles through mixed media images. SPIRIT HORSE represents Dugi’s dedication to always invoke his Native American heritage and rural roots into his creations.

Ray’s son, BRANDON DUGI, began taking pictures at the age of thirteen. The beauty he saw through the lens of his native surroundings encouraged the young boy to continue. The result of his years spent capturing the desert landscape is nothing short of amazing! BRANDON DUGI’S vision is vividly captured in his first exhibit, WALK IN BEAUTY.

Please join the Powell Museum in welcoming our newest artists and latest exhibit on Friday September 30, 2016 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. Refreshments will be served.

September and October 2016 Artist of the Month/Serena Supplee

Powell Museum News & Events

September and October 2016

Artist of the Month

Serena Supplee

Please join us for a reception welcoming Serena on Friday September 9, 2016 at the Powell Museum in Page, Arizona from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.

Refreshments will be served. All are welcome to attend.

Serena Supplee

The beauty, truth, and freedom of canyons and rivers pulse through Serena Supplee. The landscapes of the Colorado Plateau and its heartbeat take form through her colorful palette. Her “on location” paintings are touched by rock, wind, fire, and ice. She paints the magnificence of canyons, the splendor of starlight, the undulating power of rivers, the towering grandeur of cottonwood trees, and the mysterious symbols of the ancient ones.

In canyon country, every change of light presents amazing views which flow through Serena onto her canvas in a brilliant interpretation of color, space, time, and emotion. Her canvases stimulate feelings of joy and liberation or stun you into silence.

Originally from Iowa, Serena earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Northern Arizona University. Her work has appeared in more than 50 one-woman shows throughout the Southwest.

Her latest works
are focused on the rapids and the Inner Gorge of the Grand Canyon. This series of fine art prints will be available at the Powell Museum for purchase during the exhibition. This is your opportunity to own a work by Serena Supplee. Many of these paintings, complemented by her poems, are also found in Serena’s first book, Inner Gorge Metaphors.

Serena works in watercolors, oils, and sculpture. She also uses the Giclée printing process, making it possible to produce a print of her paintings. Serena loves to paint plein air, outdoors on location. She also does many sketches on site which are later transformed into paintings at her Moab studio.

Works in progress and finished paintings and sculptures may be seen at her studio by appointment.

August 2016 Artist of the Month/Greg Brush

August 2016 Artist of the Month

Greg Brush

Please join us in welcoming our newest Artist of the Month – Greg Brush! His work will be on exhibit beginning Friday August 5th and run through the end of the month at the Powell Museum, 6 N. Lake Powell Blvd. in Page, AZ  For more information, please call us at 928-645-9496.

Greg Brush has been trying to get lost since moving to Arizona in 1984. Since then, he has spent every spare minute exploring the Southwest’s outback. Afflicted with chronic wanderlust, Greg has attempted to avoid urban situations whenever possible.

Starting as a photographer in the 1980s, he progressed to digital photography when the technology began to rival traditional film. Greg utilizes a variety of techniques and equipment to create unique images. Time lapse photography is one of his favorite approaches. Some night photographs are a composite of up to 800 individual images compressed into a single frame.

Greg’s photography has been published in a variety of media including magazines, newspapers, calendars, greeting cards, and numerous advertisements.  On occasion, some photographs have been the subject of paintings by fellow Southwest artists.  A shameless self-promoter and philanthropist, Greg has selflessly donated his photography (in the form of wallpaper) for multitudes of nameless computer users.

When not exploring the white areas of cellphone coverage maps, he reluctantly ventures into town for paychecks and supplies.
